Our winter season has come to an end and now it’s finally time for a short break to recharge and give our body and minds some much-needed rest before the summer season starts. After a busy six months of competing, 6 countries, 3 continents and 500 hours of winter training it’s time to put away our skates and start oiling our bike chains.

But before we do that, it’s time to relax on the sofa with a good cup of brew22 and reflect on the last 6 winter months.

2019/2020 achievements:

  • 3 Senior World Cups in Minsk, Nur-Sultan & Calgary
  • A silver medal at the U23 World Cup in Enschede
  • 4 starts at the European Championships in Heerenveen
  • 2 Top 10 rankings at World University Championships in Amsterdam
  • 4 new national records
  • 7 new personal bests

This winter was filled with some of our best achievements, highest rankings and multiple world cup qualifications but we also experienced some setbacks like illness and unlucky crashes. Looking back, we can proudly say that this winter season has put us on the right path to making the 2022 Games a reality.

Our main focus for next season will be securing a spot at the World Championships, held in Beijing at the Olympic venue. Qualifying for this championship will give us the advantage of getting to know the ice and the venue. Besides that, we hope to climb higher in the World Cup rankings. With the money we earn this year, we hope to be able to afford to bring a coach with us to international events as having support at important races can make a big difference in performance.

This season, we also made our dream a reality and set up our own coffee company: Brew ’22. Instead of sitting around waiting for sponsorship or funding, we decided to take matters into our own hands. We did everything ourselves, from setting up the website, designing our packaging, visiting the roasteries to tasting the coffee. We pitched our idea to numerous people and after enthusiastic responses, officially launched in January. Since then, we have been learning and adjusting as we go.

This season has forced us to be creative with our time and energy. Trying to balance skating fast and selling coffee has probably been the biggest challenge yet. Finding the time to set up and run our business while being dedicated training, enough rest and still doing work towards our university degree has not always been easy.

It has been such an exciting couple of months and we want to thank everyone who has showed interest in our brand & products. Every sale has helped us one step closer to the 2022 Games and we really appreciate your support!

We promise to continue supplying you with great coffee and will make sure to keep you updated. Keep an eye out for exciting new products coming your way, including (travel) mugs & brewing methods.
